I suppose we're nowhere near a consensus on MSU. Larry Cosgrove's thought that MSU "solves" a problem hits me the wrong way. MSU presents an opportunity that many of its correspondence grads have used wisely, and many others (2 in my market) have wasted and misused. The fault for much of the latter remains with MSU. (I've spoken with Dr. Binkley about this). Much of the material is good, but much of the grading is beneath the standards MSU surely upholds on campus.

Until the grading policy is tightened up, MSU solves a problem for individuals with good work habits, ambition, and talent. On the other hand, it CREATES a problem when it allows utterly unprepared and lazy grads to slip by and masquerade as forecasters. This continues to undermine the hard work and reputation won by the dedicated, hard workers both in the correspondence program and, to a certain (and unjustified) extent, the on campus B.S. grads.
