TOM:

Just wanted to say that I agree 100% with your editorial regarding Mississippi State University and the state of the industry. Personally, I would settle for 1 out of every 3 stations employing a 'weather-oriented' meteorologist, but as of now those numbers seem unattainable. And it isn't because of MSU. Rather, it is the stubborn refusal of some TV stations to hire someone who's first love is the weather; many news directors are more comfortable hiring a humorist or a reporter. I might also add that few meteorology programs make any attempt at teaching their students broadcast communications skills.

Dr. Binkley's program solves a huge need in the television industry, and if you haven't noticed, there are some quality graduates working in television who, surprise, actually love the weather! Maybe at the Orlando FL conference next year we can concentrate on ways at preserving meteorology in TV, instead of taking huge amounts of time talking about the National Weather Service and ways we can "educate the public."
